Keep Occupied!

When at the workplace, the best thing to do for yourself is to keep occupied, no matter how mindless, boring, or frustrating the job is. It is the simplest and easiest way make a workday go by faster, keep your mind busy, and keep your hands moving. One of my personal favorite things to do at work is probably the easiest thing to enjoy at work. Music! If applicable at YOUR workplace, I recommend it. I know that when I am just sitting at my desk, and working on a website, or researching for content, it can get kind of mindless not to mention, listening to all of the surrounding noise including physical and semantical. It can also be very distracting if you are friends with the people you work with. Also Keep in mind that when you are able to focus to listening to your favorite tunes, you could just go and go while working. Trust me I know the feeling.

SEO work just keeps on getting better and better. I’m becoming more and more accustomed to working seo and getting all the repetitious patterns and methods down. still a few things i need work on…OK well maybe more than a few, like trouble shooting uploading procedures, uh…you know, just very basic seo work, like content writing, and page styling. but things are going well. i have more files to work through now, which wouldn’t be such a problem if the network was ANY faster than it is right now, at THIS point in time. I’ve pretty much got this huge client completed…just waiting on the network, you know. thought i would stop by the ol’ “writing hole” and see what was up…I’m a drifter…drifting blog to blog to blog. oh…and i couldnt get that new iPhone i wanted. you can check it out here.

Tables?

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Now I’m sure by now that you are completely used to using div’s. Personally, I think div’s beat the heck out of tables. There is an instance where you should use both that has been brought to our attention. Apparently engines like Google are looking at data as well inside the tables. Of course, that data had better be completely appropriate or it would’ve been better if you put nothing at all. But I don’t need to tell you that.

An example of a site I had recently done with a table in it: Ask Your Travel Agent. As you can see, I organized it in a servicing and specialties kind of thing. You can have more data in your tables, but just keep it in moderation, alright? In this case the phrase “Too much of anything is bad” applies.

Marketing

Friday, November 9th, 2007

A good marketing strategy is always good for increasing a site’s relevance, SEO considers how search algorithms work and what people search for. SEO Engines may involve a site’s coding, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more noticeable efforts may include adding unique content to a site, ensuring that content is easily indexed by search engine robots, and making the site more appealing to users.

Color Scheming

Color Scheming

The best way to scheme color in a website is to keep everything compatable. If you want to a blue and gray website, you have to go with the most dominant color which is gray in this case. Look at this site for example http://asrelimousine.net/. The blue is just a focal point to the company, and it just attracts your attention. Yet the gray and deep blue blend with it well creating a smooth transition from color to color.  Also, keep in mind the eyes of the person viewing your site.   You wouldnt want to have a giant neon yellow hi-liter background with small white text.  You also must keep the color appropriate for the industry.  You do not want a bright green and red and blue and purple site for a funeral home.  Nor would you want a website for a bank be hot pink and orange.

Finally

Friday, November 9th, 2007

this week went by pretty slow but it was also a good week if i twist my view of reality a little. i did not accomplish any of my goals that i set last week for this week, due to frustration and the lack of a few other elements in the work place. it took me a minute to realize the problem and flaw, but I’ve finally switched my gears around for a better week next week, and as far as i am concerned it will be a better one.

MLM Rant

Friday, November 9th, 2007

I just feel like ranting on something right now…I am on my third mlm site today and they are all the same and all so frustrating….

You get localized keywords only they are really not, and I understand that that is their way of globally expanding their site, but to use keywords that they do not even have on their original site and you wonder why they are not getting their message across. I just think it is frustrating to read success stories and not even know what exactly they are pushing on you…

Just a quick rant because this site I am working on right now is currently pissing me off,  thank you for your time…will right more later

SEO for FIREFOX

Friday, November 9th, 2007

I found a cool plug-in that you can get for Firefox. Check it out. Here are a few features from this plug-in.

  • PR: (Google PageRank) an estimated measure of global link authority
  • Age: age pulled from Archive.org, shows the first time a page was indexed by Archive.org’s spider. The theory is that if Archive.org found a page so did many of the major search engines.
  • Links: (Yahoo! linkdomain) shows a rough estimate of the total number of links pointing at a domain
  • .edu Link: (Yahoo! .edu linkdomain ) shows a rough estimate of the total number of .edu links pointing at a domain
  • .edu Page Link: (Yahoo! .edu link ) shows a rough estimate of the total number of .edu links pointing at a specific page
  • .gov Link: (Yahoo! .gov linkdomain ) shows a rough estimate of the total number of .gov links pointing at a domain

The Importance of a good SEO’d site

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Some times if you are trying to optimize a web site using the timberlake system it is almost impossible to get good rankings if there site is the opposite of optimized. For example I was working on petwalkerplus.com and there site was in no way shape of form could have been high on google.com. The reason why this would be so is that there links used javascript and the search engine never picked up the links so it a 10 page site was turned in to a one page site. So the timberlake site also suffered because of this and it too was getting no rankings. To fix this problem I sent an email to the client to see if she could get her web designer to fix it so both our site and her’s could get optimized.
