Filler Content

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

The art of filling space with content ‘ i.e’ using state information or just generalized definitions of keywords or business ideas….does it all help with ranks or is it just a waste….well for my aspect only time will tell but it comes to a point that with so many keywords it is hard to write solid content for all of them all the time, sometimes you just need that filler help….

I used this in the last account I reworked hoping to 1) get required content done and 2) because it is just too hard to write solid content for 85keywords!! Ed Parisi is an MLM client of ours and has decent ranks, I know they can be better and I am trying to do that, I guess I will find out on his ranks and the rework job I did on him in a couple of weeks but I hope it helps

Cross Browser Troubleshoooting

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

When designing sites you have to keep in mind that not everyone is using the same browser as you are. So as a designer you must keep cross browser compatibility in mind. There are many ways to do this. For some the easiest way is to make style just for that type of browser. This allows you to create different styles for each browser, giving you a different look for each person looking at the site. Another way is putting “if statements in the CSS for certain browsers. This is what I like, but for some people finding the right code for the certain browsers is difficult. I found I site that lists cheat sheets for just such a thing. So when you are designing sites and you have a problem with your design in different browsers, remember the different techniques to get around that problem.

Fill ‘er up….with content!!

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I’ve hunted for what seems like days for content and now I must modify it to sound good and contain lots of keywords.  Being a SEO “professional” can be quite rewarding when you see a site that  you’ve worked on getting lots of first page placings…it’s just gather all the necessary content for the site that takes all the time and skill.

Content Out the Wazoo

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

After recently being asked to make some modifications to an Alabama insurance agent site, there is now an amount of content that is just far too much for any one reader unless they really like to read I suppose. Linking to each of the 10 cities designated in the site, it helps both the rankings of the sites they link to and for themselves. If every site was required to have this much content, we wouldn’t be getting much sites done a day, but they sure as heck would be well ranked.

Submissions

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

So I’ve learned how to submit a website to msn, yahoo, google, alexa, and webceo, as well as yellowpages. Some are more tedious than others but seemingly as important, as long as you are interested in getting your site out there to the people on the web.  If you want to increase your exposure and page ranking then I highly recommend looking into, and submitting to, the previously mentioned sites.

Another day, Another…

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

So today I am going to finish what i started last night before i left work, a new account for an insurance agent. Her link is http://suzannecloud.net/ and you can see the work when I am finished. After this client is finished, I am going to try and get through three more news. But we shall see what happens. I dont know what today has in store for the line as far as work load goes, but it should be pretty busy and fast moving. Lots and lots of coffee for the SEO techs not to mention some tea…I might need some tea for I think I might be getting something.

Blogging for Content

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

One way  to help your website out with SEO is by having a blog linked to it. If you sell a light fixture for example, on your e-commerce website, then it would be a good idea to blog about light fixtures. Blog about how it works and what kind of wattages are available and so on. This way, the more descriptive content that you have about an item, the more keywords and phrases you’ll eventually have. This is important when you are trying to draw traffic to your website. Sometimes these can also be done as FAQs page, where more of the subject and keywords can be targeted.

Formatting images for SEO

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

One of the most commonly known Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tips that go around has to do with the way you name and tag the images that you use on your site. Its fairly commonly accepted by most SEO experts that Google not only looks at the text on your blog in order to measure its worth but that Google’s spidering bots also take a look at the code you use in your image files.

Over the years SEO techniques have been developed to abuse this fact and webmasters have ’stuffed’ their ‘alt tags’ with all kinds of keywords - however Google has found ways to combat this and treats such strategies as spamming their bots now - however it is still legitimate to put keywords in you image tags and I would recommend that you do (within reason).

If I’m writing on one of my technical blogs about a product and want to post a picture - I always make sure that the file name of the picture includes the name of the product (with-hyphens-between-words). The system I use (ecto) to publish my blog uploads photos automatically to set the file name as the ‘alt tags’ (which are the words that come up as your picture loads) and uploads the picture to its own URL with the file name in the actual URL. This ensures that when Google’s bot spiders through your site it sees your keywords an additional few times per picture.

For those that have no idea how to write an Alt Tag into your image - it will usually look something like this

<img src=”http://secure.cre8dserver.com/~problogger.net/wp-images/darren-rowse.jpg” alt=“these are the keywords I’m targeting” width=”75″ height=”100″/>

One last warning - don’t stuff your Alt Tags full of keywords - especially ones that don’t relate to the rest of your page as they run the risk of being seen as spam.

To Read or Not to Read

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

So apparently content does not have to make any sense…it just needs to be full of your chosen keywords. It’s not like anyone is going to read it anyways, right? They’re just gonna come to your site and immediately click on the advertisements which will ultimately make you RICH!! In a lot of ways this makes perfect sense to me…or at least it’s what I want to believe. If you goal is to just get your site seen, or if you have it linked to your main site, then this is actually one way to go about placing content on your page for SEO purposes. Unfortunately, if you do decide to place a ton of keyword rich mumbo jumbo on your site the gobs of folks that show up might actually read it, or at least attempt to, and decide that you’re a maniac! Or illiterate.

So remember, lots of keywords, good.  Lot’s of nonsensical bull, bad.

Sounds like a case of the Mondays!

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Sounds like a case of the Mondays! Has anyone ever said that to you? Well with Christmas being said and done, and being right back at work the following day, it feels like Monday…all over again. There is not enough coffee in the office to keep me from thinking about sleep, and focused on work today. This re occurrence of “Monday” has totally thrown me out of the loop today, and I feel as if I am moving at a snails pace. Co workers may say that that is nothing out of the norm. But SEO needs working so I am here none the less ready to do my best. One of my previous sites came back from more content. It was created before the initial shift for content writing, but is now updated, and I believe ready to make some serious ranks. http://ptreadwell-cpa.com/
