Creating a .htaccess
Now I am not to sure about the rest of you but I have come across this problem quite a few times, and by writing about it hopefully it will help some of you guys out as well. So creating a .htaccess file…why? what is it? what does it do? I am not going to tell you exactly what it does but the only time you should have to even ask about it is if you are taking an existing url with a timberlake build, and you need to make it into a splash page. What happens most of the time is the url wont work properly. This is because the .htaccess file is still hidden within the ftp and must be over written with a blank .htaccess. So if you have a Timberlake and you deleat it, try to load the page up with the index file and everything you need for a splash page and nothing will come up exept maybe a 404 error. You have to open dreamweaver and create a new html file. Once you have the html file created, deleate the contents, and then save as “.htaccess” thats it, nothing else. Take your new blank file and drop it into the FTP for the site you want to work on and then that should fix any problem you once had. Hope this helps.
